PUBLISHER WANTED

2-6 players / age 8-adult / 30-45 min

Game objective

Combine and overlap cards to compose words and win the maximum points.

The Cards

There are different types of perforated cards.
Each card has 2 characters to the left and right of the hole.

Some characters are replaced by ‘butterfly’ logos (i.e. a joker) which may represent any character of choice.
Some cards have the notation: X2 or X3.
If any characters above the mark, X2 or X3, are used in a word - the score for that word is multiplied by 2 or 3 (see below).

Starting position

Each player receives 3 cards, which remain hidden from the opponent(s) until played.
The remaining cards are placed face-down on the table and the top card is turned face-up.
Game play then starts.

Gameplay

Players alternate taking 1 card from the pile and adding it to their cards.
The goal of the game is to put one or more cards on the table and compose words
by combining/overlapping a card or cards already on the table.
The words must contain at least 3 characters, using 2 characters (minimum) from a card already on the table.

The scoring is as follows:
- basic score: 1 point for each character in the word (a butterfly logo counts as 1 point).
e.g. a word of 4 characters scores 4 points.
- additional points:
  o multiply by 2 or 3 if the section of a card with the x2 or x3 notation is used e.g. the basic score of a 3-character word, using one of the characters above the X2 notation, is multiplied by 2 - scoring 6 points.
  o multiply by 2 if more than 2 cards are combined to form a word

examples:

word = TOER ... 2 cards combined: basic score = 4 points.

word = BON ... 2 cards combined: basic score 3 … x 3 = 9 points.

word = LENTE ... 3 cards combined: basic score 5 … x 2 = 10 points

A player is not obliged to score on a turn and may pass.
If he/she does not place a card on the table, the cards are held and may be used on the next turn.
The next player then starts his/her turn.

The game ends when there are no more cards in the pile. Players count the number of unplayed cards and deduct the total from their score
The player with the highest score wins the game (points may be noted on a score pad).

Remarks:
- the character replacing the butterfly logo may vary during the game and is not fixed -
it may therefore be reused to compose a new word.
- x2 or x3 is only valid if the word contains at least one of the characters above the notation.
- e.g. if the notation is on the left and the word composed is made of the 2 letters visible from the underlying card and a character(s) from the right side of the card, then only the basic score counts.
